Overview

In the two-week sprint at Ironhack's UX/UI design bootcamp, our team was tasked with creating Napp, a user-friendly app under the Daily Health Conference initiative. The app's mission is to assist parents in establishing and maintaining healthy bedtime routines for their young children, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of families.

Challenge

Challenge

Challenge

The challenge presented to us by the Daily Health Conference was to harness the power of technology to help people lead healthier lives. In a world where technology is causing massive disruption in the health and wellness industry, the conference sought to explore innovative solutions that leverage mobile health apps, wearables, and biometric trackers. Recognizing the significant impact of sleep quality on overall health, our specific challenge was to create an app dedicated to improving sleep routines for parents and their young children.

To understand better the target and the problem we conducted a secondary research that reveals that technology, particularly mobile health apps, wearables, and biometric trackers, is causing significant disruption in the health and wellness industry. The omnipresence of smartphones has created a vast market for digital health products. Sleep, being a fundamental element of good health, has a direct impact on people’s overall well-being. This is supported by the Sleep Foundation and numerous medical studies, which highlight the adverse effects of poor sleep habits on physical and mental health.

A comprehensive analysis of existing competitors in the market revealed the availability of sleep tracking apps and apps offering features to facilitate sleep. However, there was a significant gap when it came to apps specifically focused on creating and maintaining bedtime routines.

Considering all the information we got to our user persona, Laura, a 36-year-old working mom, is the target user of the SleepWell App. She strives to create a balance between her career and family, seeking effective strategies to overcome sleep issues and incorporate self-care into her routine. Laura faces challenges in implementing bedtime strategies, dealing with resistance from her 3-year-old daughter, and finding relaxation among the demands of parenting.

Crafting Laura's user journey map provides us with a detailed visual narrative of her experiences and interactions before engaging with our app. By charting her path, from recognizing the need for a better sleep routine for her daughter to the frustrations and challenges she encounters, we gain invaluable insights. This explorative process not only highlights the obstacles Laura faces but also illuminates a plethora of opportunities ripe for innovation in our app's design.

To better understand the user experience, we defined two user flows. The first flow focused on explaining how Laura would implement the bedtime routine, and the second flow assessed the routine’s impact the next morning.

With these insights, a low-fidelity prototype was developed for concept and user testing. Valuable feedback obtained during testing sessions emphasized the importance of simplicity and clarity, considering the limited time parents have at their disposal.

Afterward, we moved forward to craft the mid-fi prototype for further testing. After conducting this testing we saw that we were lacking for some information for the routine planner like a calendar and the time each activity was needed to be done for tracking. Some buttons lacked clarity and required redesign. Additionally, we recognized the need for simplifying and streamlining the questionnaire to make it more user-friendly.

The resulting application is a Sleep Routine App designed for user convenience. It showcases a user-friendly routine planner, empowering users like Laura to customize bedtime rituals for individuals such as Emma. Incorporating calming elements like videos, storytelling, music, and soothing sounds, the app offers a serene experience. Reminders ensured timely execution of the routine, and expert advice on different sleep stages enhanced parents’ knowledge and confidence.
